New Pixar Trailer!

July 27th, 2008 at 11:32am • Posted in Uncategorized • Tagged none

Pixar just showed off the first trailer for their latest movie at ComicCon. As usual with Pixar's initial teaser trailers, it doesn't reveal much, but introduces us to the main character, and possibly the reason why the movie is named "Up".

Mmm, reminds me of one of my favorite books as a kid. There's something inherently magical about balloons.

And on a somewhat related note, my friend and designer David Lanham is now out there at the convention hawking his new designer toys company, so if you like his art, make sure to check it out! :)

Show Your Colors With Insanely Great Tees

November 02nd, 2006 at 2:44pm • Posted in Uncategorized • Tagged , ,

Insanely Great TeesFor those of you who participated in My Dream App, you know what Insanely Great Tees is. But for those of you who don't, my friends at Monkey Business Labs have just opened up their Mac-centric t-shirt shop, and it's full of some really great shirts for all of you hardcore Mac users. My personal favorite is the "Magic Eraser" shirt pictured on the left, and I'm looking forward to more shirts sporting visual puns as the store fills out. (There are currently six designs available for purchase.)

I'm aware of two other Mac-related t-shirt vendors. If you guys know of any others, be sure to let me know in the comments!

New Bravia Commercial: Paint

October 17th, 2006 at 7:26pm • Posted in Uncategorized • Tagged none

Last year's "Bouncing Balls" commercial for Sony's new LCD TV's was one of the coolest videos I've ever seen. (If you haven't seen that one yet, check it out here.) Well, they're at it again, and this time they've replaced bouncing balls with paint to spectacular effect. The crazy part? As far as I can tell from the behind the scenes video they have on the website, this was done with zero CGI. All "paint mortars" and explosives, or as one of the technicians described it, "fireworks but with paint". (EDIT: As my friend Brian points out, they probably did use CGI to remove the cranes, barrels, and techicians. But the paint seems 100% real.) Check it out by clicking below.

According to this blog post, the video's filming involved "70,000 litres of paint, 358 single bottle bombs 33 sextuple air cluster bombs, 22 Triple hung cluster bombs, 268 mortars, 33 Triple Mortars 22 Double mortars, 358 meters of weld, 330 meters of steel pipe, 57 km of copper wire", plus a scary guy in a clown costume. All for 60 seconds of your amusement. Now go buy a Bravia TV.
